Costa Rica is preparing for the third edition of the Latin American Congress of Medical Tourism , which takes place from 23 to 25 of April next year.

The aim of the authorities of the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT) and the International Council for the Promotion of Medicine of Costa Rica (Promed) is to go beyond the goals achieved in the previous congress, held in May this year.

On that occasion tied up 1000 business meetings between 75 international buyers and 75 suppliers in Costa Rica, as well as cooperation agreements between local and international companies.

One result that is expected to generate revenues is the possibility that the transnational Global MedAfford bring to the country to 6,000 patients in 2012, which will generate annual revenues of $ 60 million, said the ICT in a press release.

The Costa Rica medical tourism in 2011 generated revenues of over $ 288 million thanks to the arrival of 36,000 tourists. By 2014 it is expected that 100,000 health tourists arrive to the country, which would leave foreign exchange of $ 800 million.
