In the month of October we are invited to use tennis shoes, to dress pink and commit to fighting and preventing breast cancer.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this type of cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide.
That’s why thousands of runners and walkers in the country will join in the coming weekends initiatives to draw attention to the disease.
Activities will start on Sunday October 7, with the ninth edition of the Run and Walk Against Cancer, organized by Anna Ross Foundation. The meeting will begin at 8 a. m. and participants can choose between two distances go: 5-10km.
The race will start in Park Merced and end at the National Stadium. Last year ran 3,000 athletes and 30,000 people attended the walk.
The proceeds from the race will go to the foundation, which is dedicated to psychosocial support for cancer patients and their families.
On October 14 will be the fourth edition of the race “Run for me.”
Paths, 4 and 8 km will be for participants from the general category and wheelchair.
Some 5,500 runners will participate in this activity, which will leave the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana, at 7:30 a. m., and will culminate next to the National Stadium.
Marcela Marquis, of the organization, said: “Many people still do not understand the importance of early detection of cancer. Through these mass activities, people have more awareness. ”
The money raised from these inscriptions, will go to Fundacáncer, organization that supports cancer patient Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia Hospital.
Registration for the race, “Against Cancer Walk” and “Run for Me”, are closed. However, there is still an alternative for those who want to move and join this cause.
“Together for the Cure” is a race-walk organized by Nestlé Fitness, which will be held on Sunday October 28 in Escazu ..
This will be the second time that will be made. This race will be held with the aim of making a campaign to educate and inform about the importance of cancer prevention through good nutrition, physical exercise and preventive examinations.
Riders can choose between two paths: 5-10km.
The cost of registration is ¢ 8,000 for the 5 km and ¢ 10,000 for the 10 km, and can be canceled at Walmart, Escazú.
This race will start at the supermarket, and ended at the same place. The organization expects about 4,000 runners participate this year.
The inscriptions money will also go to Anna Gabriela Ross Foundation.
