SUTEL rejects ICE request to delay phone number portability

The Superintendency of Telecommunications (Sutel) rejected a request made by the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) which sought to delay the implementation of number portability until 2014.

ICE’s request was to try to extend the deadline established by the Sutel in January this year, which gave operators 400 days to implement the measure, which will allow users to keep their phone numbers when changing operators .

With the refusal of the Superintendent, maintaining the initial time limit, which will meet in February 2013.

Sutel explained in a press statement, on Monday, September 17 will be another competition for conditions for hiring the company that give this service.

“The company that wins will build necessary infrastructure and will have a month to test. Sutel’s goal is that by the end of the year is awarded the project and start to operations or at the latest in February 2013, “said the bulletin.

Number portability is a right of users according to the General Telecommunications Law and the Regulation on the Protection Regime end user of the Telecommunications Service.
