1,983 hectares of land and 55,210 hectares in the marine form the Manuel Antonio National Park in the canton of Aguirre in the province of Puntarenas.
Its natural and beautiful beaches, makes this area one of the most visited by tourists both domestic and foreign.
While in 2009 the amount of visitors to the park was 234,275, a year later 38,538 more people came on top of the previous year, and 2011 they ended with 318,113 tourists visiting the national park.
Groups are finding that in some instances they actually have to wait in line to enter the park.
Manuel Antonio has 352 species of birds, 109 mammal species and 346 plant species.
In February last year 33,621 people entered the park and this year saw the entry of 35,840 tourists.
The entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park is managed by Coopealianza must inform the park authorities on the number of people entering and then take action.
For the Holy Week the park will have ready a path back to Punta Cathedral and by the end of the year, begin construction of an air path, which convey the main entrance to the second beach.
