Prosecution Opens Case Against Two Alleged Crimes In RECOPE

The Press Office of the Attorney General confirmed that the Deputy Attorney Probity, Transparency and Anti Corruption opened a criminal case by the court to investigate a procurement by the Costa Rican Oil Refinery for public relations services.

Preliminarily, we investigate the influence offense against public finances, including in Article 57 of the Law against corruption and illicit enrichment in public office, which prescribes a penalty of 2 to 8 years in prison.

According to the newspaper La Nacion, the wife of former Minister of Finance Fernando Herrero, won a contract to advise RECOPE in public relations after the refiner invited the tender to three companies that sell building materials and none involved.
