Prison Riot Over Drugs at Reforma

The mutiny occurred at 9 am at the Reforma prison, when the prison police conducted a search and came to check on a prisoner who hid drugs.

Apparently the defendant, aided by a group, attacked the police to prevent the review and the finding of the drugs.

In total five inmates considered dangerous, burned mattresses and attacked the police but as the minutes passed others joined the mutiny.

Police monitored the situation with specialized support units. In the area involved there were a total of about 50 prisoners.

At the end – five leaders of the mutiny were arrested and passed to the courts to be prosecuted for assault, drugs and burning mattresses.

As a result of this raid, authorities confiscated 181 homemade weapons, 13 phones over a million and a half colones and drug packaging mainly marijuana and crack.
