North American restaurants are looking for open space in the country

Six new chains of restaurants will open soon in the country and compete with other local and foreign brands that are more rooted in the palate of Costa Ricans.

We’re talking about Chili’s, Moe’s, Cosi, Spoleto, Hard Rock Cafe and Buffalo Wings BW, names associated with burgers, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, chicken wings and Italian cuisine.

They will come to compete with names like Outback, TGIF, Friday’s, Hooter’s, Chichi’s, Spoon, Tacontento and Applebee’s.

“The arrival of new competitors we can prove our quality and service. Competition is always welcome, “said Alfonso Guardia, director of Applebee’s, chain which will open its third restaurant later this year, north of the metropolitan area.

Among the new competitors that arrive, is Chili’s, a chain of U.S. origin.

Andres Gomez, general manager of Chili’s Costa Rica, said that this franchise will open the first of its premises in the country, next week, in Multiplaza Escazú.

The first opening will be at a local 500 square meters (sqm) and required an investment of $ 2 million, which includes, among other things, hiring 125 people.

The executive said that the strengths of Chili’s will be based on customer service, the price of food and drinks, and the breadth of choices on the menu.

By the end of the year is expected the second opening of Chili’s in Lincoln Square, in Moravia.

The plan of local investors, is to open a total of five locations in a period not exceeding five years.

Buffalo Wings BW established the month of September for the opening of its first store in the country, said Paul Villalta, partner and general manager of the franchise, also of U.S. origin.

This restaurant specializes in chicken wings and ribs, a local open in Plaza Tempo 600 m² in Escazú. The investment is $ 700,000 and will generate 35 jobs. Villalta said that four more outlets between 2013 and 2014.

Hard Rock Café is another franchise that expects to be ready to receive customers in January, in a place that will measure about 1,000 m². It will be located in the Hotel Ramada Herradura complex in Bethlehem, Heredia.
