Apple unveiled the iPad Air, a lighter and thinner version of its successful tablet, and iPad Mini modernized with improved HD screen.
Air iPad is 43% thinner than the version it replaces, weighs 450 grams and is “extremely fast,” said Apple vice president Phil Schiller during the product launch.
Apple also introduced an upgraded iPad Mini display that features “retina” with faster and better graphics.
The two new iPads will be sold with existing versions from November 1 in numerous countries.
The iPad Air cost U.S. $ 499 and the new Mini , $ 399. Apple will lower the price of older iPad.
iPad remains the best-selling tablet but its market share is being eroded by competitors who use the Android operating system.
