Increase Coming For Public Transport Due to Rising Fuel Costs

Public transport companies say the increase in fuel and the cost to provide service don’t mix.

Taxis and buses require increases to ensure continuity of service in the coming days.

For them the situation gets worse, if the Constitutional Court restrains an increase analyzing the Aresep of about 13%.

This would cause crisis in many bus companies within about 3 weeks.

Meanwhile, taxi drivers oppose a reduction of 5 colones which is also under consideration in the Regulatory Authority.

They filed an opposition to the cuts and instead feel they need an increase of 20 colones.

Carriers consider the future of public transport is in the hands of the Board and approving Aresep but increases in fares.
