ICE Under Investigation For Unfair Competitive Practices

The Superintendency of Telecommunications (SUTEL) investigates the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) for apparent anti-competitive practices after receiving a complaint lodged by the promotion Movistar “Chip Extreme”.

This is a promotion in which the client pays Kolbi ¢1,500 and receive a bonus of ¢6,000.

In this package the customer apparently enjoys 221 minutes of phone calls at a cost of ¢6.8, but with ICE, the cost per minute sells to othr cellular carriers for 17 colones.

If the investigation concludes that ICE is using unfair practices to support their customers they will be exposed to sanctions ranging from suspension of the promotion to pay a heavy fine.
