Healthcare Budget Cuts by 15 Billion Colones

According to a study by the College of Doctors and Surgeons, this year the reduction on the budgets of 20 hospitals, clinics and health centers is almost 15 billion colones.

The Social Security Fund is passing through a crisis and that has led to reduced care services guards and extra hours in many hospitals. The authorities claim that this puts at risk the health of users.

The Office of the Ombudsman ensures that conduct an investigation to determine the true impact of these cuts.

The hospitals most affected by the study include the Children’s Hospital with an 8% reduction in its budget. The St. Vincent de Paul Hospital with 9%.

Hospital San Rafael de Alajuela with close to 11% cuts. 0Hospital of Annexation with cuts of 14%, and motherhood Carit reach a cut of 2%.

Doctors say that their work is always to provide services, however, these cuts make it difficult to care.

The budget cuts would render the hospital in June or July this year. So it is vital to maintain a dialogue with management of the Fund that allows them to solve this problem.
