The National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (CNE) today declared a green alert for the Costa Rica volcanoes Rincon de la Vieja, Poas and Turrialba.
The decision was made in order to maintain constant vigilance and prevent visitors becoming victims of the activity of volcanoes.
Prevention was adopted by the CNE and is supported with reports from technical and scientific bodies that report constant activity in these volcanoes.
In the case of Turrialba volcano – it maintains the levels of volcanic and seismic activity that has shown in recent months.
The Poas has a decline in the lake level that causes an increase in the liberation of gases.
The Rincon de la Vieja volcano experienced fluid movements and volcanic activity at significant levels, the CNE announced.
The Technical Advisory Committee on Volcanology and Seismology of the CNE, supported by the National Seismological Network of the University of Costa Rica (RSN-UCR-ICE) and the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of the National University (OVSICORI) maintain a surveillance of these volcanoes.
The green alert allows to strengthen the measures and preventive actions that the institution has been coordinating, long, with the entities of the National Risk Management and the cantons neighbors near these volcanoes.
