Starting next Thursday, March 22, each liter of premium gasoline will cost 724 colones, due to an increase of 109 colones approved by the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP).
That price will be the largest of the last nine months, according to statistics from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE).
Since June 2011 a liter of fuel did not show such high costs.
In addition, Costa Ricans will continue to pay the highest price for petrol in Central America. While in Costa Rica a liter of “super” will cost 724 colones, in Panama it is around 451 colones. In Guatemala 580, 699 in Honduras and 693 in Nicaragua.
The chairman of the House of Fuel Dispensers, Antonio Galva, said Costa Rica sells more expensive oil to consumers by a high tax.
724 colones per liter of gasoline cost super, 216 colones correspond to the single tax set by the Ministry of Finance.
As of March 22, each liter of premium gasoline will cost 724 colones to buy while the diesel 706 and 645 colones.
