Costa Rica Asks For Further Cooperation With Germany

In a quick conversation, the President of the Republic Laura Chinchilla, presented this afternoon to the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, the necessity of international cooperation with Costa Rica in different areas.

Both leaders met in the German Chancellery located in the center of the city as part of the state visit of the Costa Rican president ​​today and tomorrow in Germany.

Merkel greeted Laura Chinchilla at the door of her office, located at number one in the street Willy Brandt, at 2:45 p. m. (6: 45 a. M. In Costa Rica).

The meeting lasted only 35 minutes.

Laura Chinchilla said, “Mrs. Angela Merkel was very interested in knowing our vision of what is happening in Latin America. We also are very interested in your vision of what is happening in Europe. The two regions are closely interconnected by trade and investment aspects and also by political and cultural aspects. ”

The theme of cooperation was the focus of the meeting, for this reason the president of Costa Rica took the opportunity to insist that the country requires more interaction from the Germans, in the area of the specialized personnel in new technologies.

Chinchilla First met with German President Joachim Gauck, the Bellevue Palace, the seat of federal government. He declined to comment specifically the topic of trade agreement , but he talked about a closer relationship between the two countries in various fields.

Then the president visited the Mayor of Berlin and had a brief meeting with the mayor – governor of the capital, Klaus Wowereit. They walked through the Plaza on March 18, where is located the emblematic Brandenburg Gate.

The president will move tomorrow to the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in southern Germany, where she will visit the Research Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen and she will have lunch with the president of that region, Winfried Kretschmann. Then she will return to Paris, France.
