China and Costa Rica Bonds Further Strengthened

President Laura Chinchilla hosted this afternoon (morning in Costa Rica) a bilateral meeting with President of the Republic of China, Hu Jintao, the Great Hall of the People in the heart of this city.

Chinchilla and her delegation were received at 5:05 pm (3:03 am in Costa Rica) with honors, the pomposity and rigor of the Chinese protocol.

Later, they passed to the great hall of the East where they held a meeting for 40 minutes.

At the end they signed eight cooperation agreements in education, trade, security, agriculture, aviation and infrastructure.

In education, for example, China promised a donation of 8,000 computers to schools and 400 more for teachers. It also formalized the grant agreement for the new National Police Academy which will be built by the Chinese in Pococí , like the National Stadium. This work has a cost close to $ 25 million.

After the signing of agreements the procession passed to the great hall of the West, where Hu Jintao offered a dinner.

According to the president the meeting marks the beginning of a new stage in the relationship between the two countries.

This is the second visit by a Costa Rican leader to the Great Hall of the People, the first was made by President Oscar Arias in 2010.
