The Cell Number Portability Process


On November 30, cellular service subscribers can move from one operator to another without losing the cell phone number. Below are some common questions regarding number portability process.

How to apply for portability?

The user must apply to the telephone company to which you want to move.

What are the fees required to switch operators while keeping the number?

There are no fees.

What should a user bring to request porting the number?

Bring identity card (or a legal status in case of companies) and phone. Users with a service plan that subsidizes the cost of the phone must provide proof of debt cancellation.

How many times can apply for number portability?

It can carry a maximum number of five times a year. This would allow a subscriber to try the service Claro, Movistar and ICE over a period of 12 months.

How long does it take?

Three days after the user made the request. On Sunday and holidays do not count as processing days.

Does the portability process interrupt the services?

Changing the number from one operator to another is done on the third day after you applied for a change, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. and takes just a few seconds.

What should the user do the third day?

Place the SIM card that they gave the new operator on the phone.

Can a subscriber switch from prepaid to postpaid and vice versa to apply for portability?

Yes you can. The operators must apply the change.
