Costa Rica News – As of November 30, telecom regulator, Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (Sutel) is making available “cell number portability”, meaning cellular users will be able to change service providers and keep their current number.
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE-Kölbi), Claro, Movistar, Tuyo Móvil and Fullmóvil will have exclusivity over cellular telephone numbers.
Claro, Movistar, Tuyo Móvil and Fullmóvil had already signed the deal earlier this year. The portability deal was hinging on whether ICE continue with its stall tactics but they signed earlier this month.
Sutel estimates some 130.000 customers, approximately 5%, will make the change within the first year.
