This Tuesday a campaign to collect 25 000 signatures will begin for the purpose to present to Congress draft legislation to protect marine species in Costa Rica.
The campaign will continue for 3 months in areas of television and radio with the help of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAE) and donated on billboards space and public areas. The signatures will be collected personally and through Facebook for Responsible Fisheries which maintain a number of “likes” or like equivalent to signatures.
The legal advisor to the Costa Rican Fisheries Federation, Antonio Chavez, said it is looking for awareness but also drastic action to protect marine species.
According to analysis of the Costa Rican Fisheries Federation, foreign flag ships and the very human action in terms of overfishing are among the chief enemies of marine species at present.
