Almost 50 years ago Costa Ricans lived one of the greatest tragedies when the Irazu volcano began erupting and ash filled almost the entire country.
In 1963 Jorge Manuel Dengo coordinated government actions, so we named him the minister of ashes.
The first eruption of Irazu was March 13, 1963, where avalanches blocked a river leaving 20 dead that day.
The capital was a cloud of ash and cars had problems with ash that was abundant in the area. Balsamina Garita, never left his house and saw little by little while his home was being destroyed. This era was remembered as a very sad time.
