236 Years In Prison For Drug Evidence Theft

Nine men were sentenced Monday to 236 years in prison for the theft of drugs from the courts of Golfito. The trial began at 8:30 am at the Criminal Court in Corredores.

They are charged with the crimes of violation of the law of psychotropics,aggravated robbery and crime simulation.

The facts date back to March 26, 2009, when several subjects entered the early morning hours on the courts of Golfito and extracted 320 kilos of cocaine.

After a three-month investigation, the Judicial Investigation Agency captured the nine subjects involved in the robbery.

The five men arrested were residents of Paso Canoas and Golfito who were sentenced to 30 years in prison, two police forces who received 29 years in prison, a former officer with 10 years in prison and another man who worked as a security officer in court he was sentenced to 18 years.

Most of those involved were arrested by an operation conducted by agents of the OIJ, where they obtained the forfeiture of a sum estimated to $ 306,000, 18,500 euros and ¢2.6 million colones, and four vehicles.

Two years and six months later, on September 26, 2011, the trial against the accused which concluded on Monday with the judgment.
