16 Liver Transplants Have Been Done in Costa Rica

A second chance on life has been given to Flor Chacon of 50 years of age.

She is a resident of Coronado and she was the last patient to receive a liver at the Calderon Guardia Hospital.

She was operated on the 13th of February.

Chacon could not walk and was always very tired.

After the operation almost 14 hours later, her life is different now.

The effort of nurses, anesthesiologists, surgeons and other surgical staff and set a record as the transplant hospital over the country and Central America.

In Costa Rica most people needing a transplant are in need of a liver transplant due to damage due to alcohol.

The average success of those who receive an organ is 75%.

Since 2009, the Calderon Guardia hospital has completed 16 liver transplants.
